Ayuna Collins was born in Boulder, Colorado. At a young age she, her younger brother, and her mother moved to a spiritual community on the outskirts of Prescott, Arizona where Ayuna was home-schooled and isolated from all forms of media- newspapers, tv, films, etc. Ayuna showed extreme, almost obsessive interest in art making and performance. After much debate and hesitation, Ayuna was allowed to move back to Boulder to attend middle and high school.

Ayuna immersed herself in art. Just after high school, Ayuna was in a near-fatal car. She had to relearning the basics: movement, reading, writing, art. After a long recovery, she attended Caifornia Institute of the Arts where she was a double major in Dance and Animation. While at CalArts Ayuna began studying with E. Michael Mitchell.

Ayuna currently lives and works in Los Angeles, investigating the interplay between her performing and visual arts.
